As per international regatta formats Sailing Instructions are necessary for every regatta. Most instructions are standard but there are always slight variations
RULES
- Rules will be explained at the briefing session prior to going on the water
- There will be one professional instructor with each team on each yacht
- There will be a “Learn to sail” session for all participants before the race
- There will be a race officer for the learning session and the races who will intimate any last minute on water changes
SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
- Everyone will be intimated when to leave for the jetty and will be accompanied by an expert instructor
- Every participant will be given a lifejacket before boarding any boat. It is a requirement that these are worn whenever you are on a boat.
SCHEDULE OF RACES
Number of races: 3
Class: First 7.5
Scheduled time: Lunch is served 1-2pm. The “Learn to Sail” and racing session will commence at 2.30 pm and will go on for 1 hour
RACING AREAS
Following diagram shows the location of racing areas.
THE COURSES
- Typically a sailing regatta takes place around a triangle course, first sailing against the direction of the wind and then two downwind legs.
- This regatta will follow the same format. The course will be shown using large inflatable red buoys.
RED BUOYS
- Three red buoys will be place to form the triangle course
- These will be sailed around and left to the port side
THE START
There is a time sequence to control the start of the race. This is usually a five minute period counting down with sound signals and flags at five minutes, four minutes, one minute and GO! This regatta will follow a similar format
- Races will be started with the warning signal made 3 minutes before the starting signal.
- The starting line will be between a race committee boat (anchored powerboat) displaying an orange flag and the starting red buoy.(Mark no. 3).It is an imaginary line drawn between the boat and the buoy
THE FINISH: The finishing line will be between the race committee boat displaying an orange flag and the windward red buoys (mark no. 1)
ADVERTISING: Boats shall display advertising supplied by the organizing authority
SAILING IS AN ENVIROMENTALLY FRIENDLY SPORT: Please refrain from throwing litter overboard. All rubbish can be disposed of onto our safety boats.
