Business leaders come together to sail and race at the HSBC SYNCHRONICITY REGATTA (CHRO REGATTA)
On 1st May, Mumbai’s corporate head’s took the helm for an extraordinary afternoon out of the office. Not a suit or tie amongst them, the afternoon was reserved for the first ever corporate sailing regatta on Mumbai’s waters. The success of the first HSBC SYNCHRONICITY REGATTA (CHRO REGATTA) set a new standard in corporate sailing and racing. With a great attendance of high profile business leaders, superb racing in ideal conditions and superb hospitality at the Royal Bombay Yacht Club this was the first event of its kind and quality in India.
The second leg of the HSBC SYNCHRONICITY REGATTA (CHRO REGATTA) series took place today (1st May) with another fantastic attendance, comprised of many of India’s business leaders. Over 40 business leaders from across Mumbai came, sailed and raced in another high energy and fun regatta experience. Seen taking the helm were Sabyasachi Hajara, Chairman and MD, The shipping corporation of India; Vikas Agnihotri, CEO, Religare Macguire Private Wealth; Amar Babu, MD, Lenovo; Robert Taylor, Director, Agrinergy; Jalaj Dani, VP, Asian Paints; Praveen Vashishta, CEO, Howden.
The regatta was organised by Aquasail in partnership with HSBC and received support from exclusive brands Citibank, Autohangar, Provogue, Jet Airways, Cox & Kings and Nautica who all share Aquasail’s vision of sailing in India.
The racing was conducted in compliance with current international formats and guidelines. It was exciting and closely contested, against the historic backdrop of Gateway of India and the Taj Palace Hotel. The participants raced Beneteau 7.5 (25 feet) yachts which proved again to be the perfect platform for fast, exciting racing as well as ideal for first time learning. The conditions were perfect with wind speeds of around 10 knots
Shakeel Kudrolli, Founder and MD; Aquasail commented, “Everyone has really taken to sailing and it’s a pleasure to see these beautiful yachts sailed by newcomers to the sport. The racing was very exciting today with all the teams in contention. ”
A regatta is a superb networking platform. All those involved share an experience racing together which forms the basis for future interaction. The guests, most of them enjoying their first ever time on the water learned sailing in teams, and despite no prior experience, were soon sailing the Beneteau yachts by themselves.
Zia Hajeebhoy, Aquasail Director “It was a fantastic day seeing corporate leaders getting together and sailing. We are proud that Aquasail has succeeded in getting corporate India to promote sailing as an amazing leisure activity. We are confident that everyone who sailed today will return and embrace sailing as a new hobby.”
The participants were also able to experience a power boating clinic on board the Aquasail fleet of Beneteau power boats in addition to the sailing. Harbour cruising aboard the Beneteau 34.7 foot yacht and the Antares 9.8m power cruiser also took place.
Corporate sailing has captured the imagination of many high profile brands across the globe. International regatta’s like Cowes week, Antigua Sailing Week and the America’s cup have earned their place on the calendar, drawing huge support from their sponsors. For the first time the HSBC SYNCHRONICITY REGATTA (CHRO REGATTA) Series has introduced the joy of sailing to corporate India.
